Admissions

Parents of prospective students should first obtain a  prospectus via website download or from the School office.  Parents will then be invited to an informal pre meeting with the Headteacher.  The purpose of this meeting is:
(i) for parents to be given additional insight into the School’s history and services.
(ii) for the Headteacher to be introduced to the prospective student.
(iii) to provide a platform for any queries or questions to be addressed.
(iv) to view the School during the working day. (Note, occasionally, pre meetings are held at weekends).

The pre-interview meeting is the first stage of the admissions procedure and allows the School to ascertain its suitability to accommodate the prospective student.

Following a satisfactory pre-interview meeting, parents will be eligible to make an application for a full interview.  This entails completing an application form and submitting it to the School along with a copy of the prospective student’s most recent school or nursery/pre school  report, a copy of a birth certificate and any other relevant documentation requested.  The applicant's details will then be entered onto the School's waiting list.  Parents will be notified of receipt of forms.  As places become available (or prior to availability in some cases) applicants will be invited to engage in the formal interview process.

Applicants will be required to undergo an interview comprised of an introduction followed by social, health and academic reviews (including an academic assessment in some instances).

At any stage between the submitting of an application form and the official interview process, the School may make representations, with parental permission, for further information into the academic record and other relevant information in relation to the prospective student.

On completion of the interview and the answering of any further queries and questions, applicants will be notified in writing of the results.

Successful applicants will be issued a copy of the Codes of Practice and must fulfil all outstanding administrative requirements before a start date is issued.  These are:
a) Reading and signing the School Agreement Form.
b) Completion of uniform & equipment checklists.
c) Payment of a nominal enrolment fee: £25.00
d) Payment of School Fees as detailed in the current School Fee Information Sheet.

Where it becomes apparent that a candidate cannot meet these requirements any offer of a place will be nullified.  Where a parent forfeits their child's place in the School the process for re-entry into the School Body is at the discretion of the Head Teacher and the School’s Trustees.

Admission of children with learning difficulties
Through the interview process New Mind will assess all prospective students.  Additionally, the School will consider the enrolment of children with special educational needs.  Admittance will not however take place where the pronouncement of the child’s need is found to be outside the range of the School’s provision.  Where issues of SEN arise during a child’s tenure at New Mind, the School will produce an assessment of the child either internally or through an external body to determine the most appropriate action to be taken.

Admission of children with English as an additional Language
Through the interview process New Mind School will assess all prospective students.  Applications where English is being learned as an additional language will only be considered if the School can provide the necessary provision.
