History
New Mind School was founded in 1996, sprung from a Saturday school venture taking place in the south London area.  This was fostered by members of the Black community, desirous of effecting the direction of their children’s education away from that which they themselves received and that of their own parents within the UK.
In the west and north of London similar entities budded during the same year resulting in three schools.  The first four years of New Mind’s growth provided educational facilities for primary-aged children.  In the late 90s continued development lead to the existence of a pre school for children aged 2½ to 5 years.  Following an in-depth study of our practices in 2001, our east London School, The People’s Trust was merged with New Mind resulting in the educational centre being furthered in the Brixton area.
In June 2003 the School obtained full registration with the DCSF and continued to work hard to secure additional facilities and premises.  The Saturday school venture that initiated the birth of New Mind started on the premise of securing good schools (i.e. those more commonly known as grammar and independent schools), for children in their final years of primary education.  This endeavour entailed ensuring a day out of the week where children could study and be taught the syllabi for entrance tests and interview skills to secure entrance into their desired secondary schools.
New Mind School absorbed and continued this culture trend and has since secured many of its school leavers into various schools of note or at least had acceptances for them to attend.  Such schools have included: Dartford Grammar School for boys, King Edwards School (Surrey), Emanuel School (Battersea), Whitgift School (Croydon), Old Palace School (Croydon) and Sydenham High School for Girls.
Today we are progressing in implementing an Action Plan to improve our academic provision and to secure more expansive premises.
